Val d'Isère, the largest winter sports resort middle school

Val d'Isère somewhat resembled a large playground or winter ski camp yesterday with 165 middle school pupils visiting the resort. Their visit was orchestrated by the Savoy and Haute Savoy County Councils (both vice-presidents in charge of youth affairs, Pierre Marie Charvoz and François Mugnier, were present) as the 2009 World Championships draws nearer. It is all part of an educational programme, points out Cécile Brennan-Sardou from the Savoy Board of Education. It offers middle school pupils the opportunity to (re)discover the lines of work available in the mountains as well as promoting the cultural aspects and interests of high alpine villages.
After attending a general presentation of the 2009 World Championships, the group separated into smaller groups to participate in a number of workshops. A historical guided tour of the resort, a tour of the 2009 facilities including the future press centre, an educational visit of the snow-making factories ... the resort was inspected from top to tail by these young pupils who made the most of the recent heavy snowfalls to initiate a few fun snowball fights!
The relationship between the resort and these middle school students don't end here. We are expecting over 1600 youngsters to attend the 2009 races.
