The Organizing committee acquiring the ISO 14001 certification

Creation of an environmental management system

The Val d'Isère 2009 Organizing Committee had commenced the procedure to obtain the Iso 14001 certification, the result of the application of an environmental management system In order to obtain the certification, the Organizing Committee must effectively manage the impacts of its activities, services, products etc on the environment, systematically evaluate their influence on the environment and constantly seek ways of improving their performance. The certification will only be awarded on the condition that the Organizing Committee complies with the targets that it sets for itself : mission, delay, costs ...

An environmental management plan has been drawn up with the aid and advice of CID Consultants and the certifying body.

After carrying out an analysis of the activities generating an impact on the environment, the Organzing Committee has determined the main areas on which it wishes to improve.

Five targeted activities :
- temporary or permanent structures
- energy consumed
- transport
- waste generated
- purchases

Six retained environmental axis in order of importance :
- energy management
- transport and traffic - communication, awareness and promotion of the environment
- raw materiel management
- waste management
- visual pollution

This is the declension, in concrete environmental measures, of an environmental policy that is integrated into the environmental management system, aimed at improving the continuity and structured approach of the environmental policy.

Stages of the certification process

The certification procedure commenced with the aid of the CID firm who, in association with the Organizing Committee launched a consultation of the various "certification offices" and selected Bureau Veritas Certification France.
