Ecocup
What is the "Ecocup"?
Ecocup is an association offering an innovative, eco-friendly alternative to disposable cups.You may have often noticed a mass of disposable cups on the ground in the wake of a major event. Apart from the fact that this is unsightly, there are also other aspects to be taken in to consideration such as all the ecological effects of the use of disposable items in terms of production, transportation and disposal.
What's the solution?
In order to avoid waste, the Ecocup system offers participants a cup for a 1 euro deposit. This deposit is paid when the cup is handed over and refunded when the cup is returned after use. The spectator may choose to keep the cup, manufactured in Championships colours, as a souvenir of the event.
Why?
What are the benefits of the Ecocup system?It's the ideal eco-friendly solution because "the best type of waste is one that doesn't exist".
This concept generates 25 times less pollution than the biodegradable equivalent.
It's an "educational" solution. The absence of easily available disposable cup leads increased community spirit where everyone feels concerned by the environment and especially waste sorting.
How?
50 000 Ecocup cups will be available during the Championships, with a further 30 000 in reserve, from the major World Championships drinks distribution points (general public restaurant, Volunteers Centre, Media Centre, "Face to Face" VIP lounge). They will be washed daily and reintegrated into the system the very next day.Goals
